“27th LACE
DAY Sunday Workshops”
Meeting Hall, Olde Lafayette
Village,
Tønder is a fine Danish point ground lace.
Beginning Tønder participants will work a sampler in 140/2 cotton. Basic bobbin
lace skills are needed along with an ability to read diagrams. Familiarity with point ground would be a
plus. Experienced Tønder lacemakers will have the opportunity to work a
different pattern.
Beginning Flanders Bobbin
Lace
Flanders is a lovely lace with a background that
looks like a caned chair seat and dense linen motifs outlined by a gimp.
Participants will work a sampler with background and gimp-enclosed motifs
called "peas". Continuing Flanders students may work on advanced
designs. PREREQUISITE: Basic bobbin lace
skills required along with an ability to read diagrams.
Schneeberger Bobbin Lace
Schneeberger is a bobbin lace with very few pairs
that uses whole stitch, linen stitch, braids, picots, and lots of sewings to
make small decorative motifs. Participants will choose from beginning level
patterns to complete a flower, a heart key ring, a candle, or a hanky
edging. Continuing Schneeberger
students can work on a pattern of their own.
Carrickmacross is an applique lace developed in
Ireland around the beginning of the 19th century
The
lace is formed by a line drawing, over which is basted a layer of net and a
layer of organdy. Using a fine sewing thread, a heavier thread is couched down
over the pattern. When all of the
stitching is complete, the entire piece is removed from the backing, and
portions of the organdy are cut away from the net, leaving a pattern of light
and dark. Additional decorations may be
added.
Another lace day, another shaw for you.
This year we are going to knit the shawl, Windsbraut Trinidad by my favorite
German designer, Monica Eckert. Windsbraut translates as Bride of the Wind and
the designer has created many beautiful Windsbraut shawls. There are few
written instructions but great charts, so you will be
able to hone your chart reading skills with this beautiful laceweight shawl.
Tatters of any level – from beginners to more
advanced – will have an interesting time in this course. Beginners will
learn how to wind the shuttle, create sliding knots and form rings, the basis
of tatting, and students already knowing how to tat, may try some new
techniques and patterns. Designs and colors for this course are geared
for Spring 2012.
For those with no or
limited experience with bobbin lace, this class is for you. Find out how to make this wonderful art form
as well as a lot of the details that are not necessarily available in a
book. Lee Daly has excellent lace
skills and has taught bobbin lace many times.
Kit with basic equipment and pattern is available for an extra fee of
$20.00.
