The Lost Art Lacers of North Jersey are pleased to have Holly Van Sciver back for a second weekend class. Holly has been a student and teacher of lacemaking for 30 years.  Originally trained in England, she has taught and lectured extensively in the United States, Canada and Europe for the International Old Lacers, regional lace guilds, national lace conferences, museums, historical societies, universities and professional organizations.

Bucks Point is an English bobbin lace derivative of the point ground family of laces. It is characterized by a delicate ground and a pattern outlined by a gimp thread.  Beginning students will learn point ground, the catch pin, moving the gimp, honeycomb ground, picots, headside and footside techniques.  Intermediate students will learn to apply the basic skills to increasingly more difficult patterns while learning additional skills including cucumber foot, moving multiple gimps, gimp fingers, irregular corners and invisible starts and finishes in honeycomb ground.  Advanced students can select from a wide range of patterns including florals at varying degrees of difficulty.  Students should indicate whether their level in Bucks Point is beginner, intermediate or advanced.  Holly is also willing to instruct in any other lace discipline the student may desire, including Torchon, Beds, Honiton, Russian, Hungarian, tape laces and more!  Why not try some of Holly’s newly designed patterns in Torchon using invisible starts and finishes.

The teacher will contact you for your individually chosen bucks point or other lace patterns. All levels of bobbin lace students are welcome from their first Bucks and Beyond pattern up to floral work.

New this year!  Open shopping from Holly’s available supplies.  We cordially invite members of local lace guilds to come and shop at any time between the class hours.

Class fee is $100.00.  LAL members, please register before Feb. 15, 2008 for space preference.   Make check payable to Lost Art Lacers of North Jersey and send to Susan Keenan, 115 Union Brick Road, Blairstown, NJ 07825. Directions and information on local room accommodations will be provided with registration confirmation. Send all questions to fleur_de_lys714@rtonline.net or call 908 459 4276.
